More on my Drupal experiences

31 May 2009

As I've posted about before, this site uses Drupal, a great piece of content management software. I've wanted to enable anonymous commenting, but obviously, I don't want to deal with spam posts. The solution was obviously to use a captcha, but Drupal doesn't come with that supported by default.

However, a quick search on the drupal website led me to the 'captcha' module which also allowed me to install a 'recaptcha' module and use that. I'm a fan of Recaptcha as a human can actually read it easily and it digitizes old books, so I decided to use that.

After a bit of configuration, anonymous comments are now enabled (with a captcha of course!) in around 10 minutes.

I've also used the 'Views' module to create the 'Recent Blog Posts' block on the right hand side of the site. This was a bit more complicated to set up although apparently installing the advanced help module makes it better. After a little reading it worked fine though. I think they could still provide some simplified options.

All in all though, it has proven to be very successful and I'm going to continue using Drupal for my site (and maybe others) in the future.
